For those who have recorded and mixed to analog tape, and who are looking to avoid absolutely any digital conversions or processing for their vinyl record releases, we can offer 100% analog mastering. We can playback your ¼” or ½” 2-track tapes on our Sony/MCI JH110M mastering deck, process using our excellent analog equalizers, compressor/limiters, enhancers and de-essers, and then add or attenuate gain as needed with our Manley Backbone transfer console, which also allows us to add fades. This is captured back on analog ¼” 2-track 15ips tape reels, and then edited, spaced and sequenced as needed to one reel per album side, via razor blade, splicing and leader tape. These reels can be then be transferred directly to lacquer or DMM vinyl record masters, at the select cutting studios still capable of sending to the cutter head directly from tape. Please note that the time, materials and care necessary to do this process is extensive, so requires additional charges quoted on a per job basis. You can hear the results of this process for yourself on Bernie Worrell’s “Standards” LP from 2011 - which was recorded to 2” 24-track, mixed to ½” 30ips 2-track, and then pre-mastered and sequenced to two ¼” 15-ips 2-track reels at Total Sonic Media. These tapes were then directly transferred to lacquer master by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering. We think the results of this effort were well rewarded with truly huge 3d sound on the LP.
